Regular RCD (safety switch) testing is a legal requirement for many property types in NSW, and a critical safety practice for all of them. We test, document, and certify, so you have proof your electrical protection is working.
An RCD (Residual Current Device), commonly called a safety switch, is the device that cuts power within milliseconds if it detects a fault, potentially saving a life. Testing confirms each RCD operates correctly and within the required trip time.
Australian Standard AS/NZS 3760 and NSW Work Health and Safety Regulations require periodic RCD testing in workplaces, rental properties, and commercial premises. Many insurance policies also require evidence of tested and compliant safety switches. Without testing, you have no way of knowing whether the switch that is supposed to protect you will actually operate when it counts.
The basic functional test every occupant should perform quarterly, confirmed by our technician as a baseline check.
Using calibrated test equipment, we measure the RCD's actual trip time against the AS/NZS 3760 standard. A slow or non-tripping RCD fails compliance, regardless of its age.
We verify the circuit can deliver enough fault current for the RCD to operate correctly, not just the device in isolation.
Every test produces a written record: device ID, circuit, test date, result, and next due date. You receive a certificate you can give to insurers, property managers, or WHS officers.
If a device fails testing, we carry stock to replace it on the spot. No second visit required in most cases.
Under AS/NZS 3760 and NSW WHS Regulations, testing frequency depends on how the property is used:
Every 3 months (push-button test) and every 12 months (full test). Construction sites, workshops, and outdoor commercial settings.
Every 6 months (push-button) and every 5 years (full test). Offices, retail, hospitality, and similar settings.
NSW regulations require that all RCDs and smoke alarms in rental properties be tested and maintained. We provide landlord compliance reports suitable for property managers.
No statutory interval, but we recommend full testing every 3 years, or when purchasing a property or completing renovations.
If your workplace also needs portable appliance testing (Test & Tag under AS/NZS 3760), we run both on the same visit. One report, one certificate, one invoice.
