In electrical terms, grounding is safety. A properly earthed system provides a fault path that keeps people safe, and it's the foundation of everything we do. But within building biology, the concept of earthing goes a step further.
The earth's surface carries a mild negative electrical charge. Research, including the work of Dr James Oschman and Dr Stephen Sinatra, suggests that sustained physical contact with this charge may reduce inflammation, support cortisol regulation, and improve sleep quality. It's a state most humans maintained continuously for most of history. Modern insulated flooring, rubber-soled shoes, and raised sleeping surfaces have changed that.
Indoor earthing brings the earth's surface potential inside, through grounded mats, conductive flooring, and earthed surfaces that allow your body to receive the charge while at home. The electrical foundation must be correct before any of this can work, which is where we begin.
